'Hans Coper, unlike Bernard Leach, didn’t set out to influence other potters and never propounded theories or wrote about his work. There is no doctrine or philosophy of design attributable to him [but] Coper was a marvellous teacher’.
Pioneers of Modern Craft by Tony Birks.
Our Artist Focus continues with the generation of studio potters that taught under and were influenced by Hans Coper and Lucie Rie at Camberwel School of Art and the Royal College of Art including Alison Britton, Carol McNicol and Martin Smith - who have gone on to be important teacher themselves.
We have extended our current exhibition Hans Coper, Lucie Rie and Pupils which will now run until Saturday 11th July.
